A House for Janet Street-Porter
Clerkenwell, London EC1 / CZWG Architects
This was Chris Roche’s first live project after graduation, acting as Project Architect for leading international architect Piers Gough at CZWG Architects. The project was the most notorious and published residential project of the decade, having an 8 page spread in Vogue Magazine and featuring in a specially commissioned BBC programme Building Sites.
The façade incorporated a number of innovative materials including 4 different colours of brickwork, lintels above window openings formed to resemble tree trunks in cast concrete, and a cantilevered semi-circular breakfast table above the street at second floor level.
Janet had studied architecture alongside Piers, at the Architectural Association and maintains a life-long passion for architecture and design – this house was to increase in value by £1m within 5 years of construction.
