ESI Foundation

Port Harcourt is the oil capital of Nigeria, and therefore one of the richest areas of the African continent. Despite this wealth, there is inequality in opportunity, particularly in rural communities. The ESI Foundation (Empowerment-Support-Initiative) is a Non Government Organization set up to provide education, training and employment opportunities for women and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. 11.04 were asked to design factories, schools, and here at their proposed HQ, a research, cultural, conference, and community centre. The project value was the equivalent of $30,000,000, and included a below ground shopping mall to shade visitors from the intense heat.
